Appreciated Stock

It is easy and can be beneficial for you to donate appreciated stock (which you have owned for more than one year) to the church instead of cash or a check. You receive a tax deduction for the current value of the stock regardless of the price you paid. Additionally, you do not have to pay capital gains tax on the appreciation.
