The Kansas City Community Kitchen
The Kansas City Community Kitchen (KCCK) began in 1980 as the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Hot Food Program, to meet an unmet need in the downtown area to feed the poor and homeless. October 1993, The Hot Food Program incorporated as Kansas City Community Kitchen. March 1994, KCCK became financially independent of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral and confirmed not-for-profit status.
Today, the kitchen feeds five hundred people daily and has expanded to include Culinary Cornerstones, a food service training program. A major portion of the food comes from private contributions ranging from individuals to churches, corporations, restaurants, caterers, produce companies and bakeries and is the sole recipient of fresh produce from two local gardens. It is funded primarily through local donations and is not a United Way agency.
Members of St. Andrew’s Church serve lunch each Friday from 11:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Sign ups are held in May, September and December for the following four months. Both volunteers and substitutes are needed!
